TOTALMTD - Daxplained

TOTALMTD is a DAX function that evaluates an expression over the month-to-date period based on a specified date column and filters.

Syntax

TOTALMTD(
   Expression,
   Dates,
   Filter
)

Argument	Properties	Description
Expression		The expression to be evaluated.
Dates		The name of a column containing dates or a one column table containing dates.
Filter	Optional	A boolean (True/False) expression or a table expression that defines a filter.

A scalar value that represents the expression evaluated for the dates in the current month-to-date, given the dates in dates.

The dates argument can be any of the following:
- A reference to a date/time column.
- A table expression that returns a single column of date/time values.
- A Boolean expression that defines a single-column table of date/time values.
Constraints on Boolean expressions are described in the topic, CALCULATE.
The filter expression has restrictions described in the topic, CALCULATE.
This function is not supported for use in DirectQuery mode when used in calculated columns or row-level security (RLS) rules.

The following sample formula creates a measure that calculates the ‘month running total’ or ‘month running sum’ for Internet sales.

= TOTALMTD(SUM(InternetSales_USD[SalesAmount_USD]),DateTime[DateKey])
